Loss of Electricity
Having a sudden loss of electricity in your home can be scary and concerning, but there are a lot of common reasons this may happen, so stay calm.
The most common cause of a loss of electricity in your home is simply a tripped switch in the fuse box. This can happen when you plug a faulty item into a socket like an old lamp. It will usually be quite easy to tell if this is the case as the electricity will go directly or shortly after the appliance has been switched on.
If you think that this may be the cause of the loss of electricity, check your fuse box. This is usually located near the front door, in your hallway or inside a downstairs cupboard. If you are having trouble locating the fuse box, contact us. Once you have located the fuse box, look, and see if one of the switches has tripped and is in the off position (switched downwards). Switch it back on (upwards) if this is the case and your electricity should return. If the faulty item is still plugged in and switched on, it will trip the switch again. You will simply have to find the item, switch it off and remove it from the socket.
If the power has been cut and there are no tripped fuse switches, it may be an idea to check and see if it is just your property that has no power. You can take a look on Northern Power Grids website to see if there are any planned power cuts or reported power cuts in your area, link below:

If you see that no other properties around have lights on, there may be a power outage in your area. If this is not the case however, there may be an issue with your power supply which will need further assistance.
If you can’t find any issues on the fuse board, you can click on the below link to report the power cut to the Northern Power Grid.
